Black mothers deserve to be well and YOGAMOTIF makes space for this effort.

The devastating stats around Black maternal health, the lack of childcare during the Covid-19 pandemic, the need for alone time to recharge, and rising mental illness among Black women has focused our work to support a community of collective care.

For folks who gave birth during the pandemic, a supportive postpartum space may have been fleeting. And for those who were more seasoned parents, this time may have been a reminder of the healing intentions never realized.  We recognize the need to support parents along their postpartum journey, whether their children are 2 or 22, whether their children are earthside or soulside, Black women need time and space to heal.

The postpARTum Project delivers self-guided artist and wellness retreats for postpartum Black Mothers.

Guests experience a simple one-day retreat at a nature-based cabin, Getaway House, or a Pittsburgh-based hotel allowing space for restoration and renewal. With a small retreat kit to encourage movement, creativity, or deep sleep, this rest-based experience is designed to be restorative.

The PostpARTum Project is made possible in part by the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh grant from The Pittsburgh Foundation, The Heinz Endowments, and our generous community sponsors.

This 2022 series has ended and we look forward to holding space for the PostpARTum season through our virtual studio and our community-based partner programs.
